Eid in the Park update

Assalamu alaikum,

Dear Brothers and Sister,

I just wanted to update you all about our Eid-al Adha event in the Park for Sutton.

For the past few weeks, the COM team has been busy working hard behind the scenes organising this next big event. However, we have hit a major road block: Our secretary general has been in negotiation with London Borough of Sutton Parks division for hiring Overton Park.

In theory, this is not a big deal, but It seems London Borough of Sutton are reluctant to let us use the public park for our gathering by using bureaucracy and red tape to slow down the process.

We gave them until midday today to reply back. The deadline came and went without any response or apology. Using the park without consent would not be advisable and certainly wouldn’t go unnoticed.

By stark comparison, there are other Boroughs in England and Wales that would jump at the chance to build bridges with all it’s communities.

To this end, we have decided not to go ahead with our Eid in the Park this year. This has been a very hard decision to make, and it was not made lightly.

On behalf of the COM team, apologies for this disappointing news, but we hope you are able to perform you Eid salaat elsewhere.

Ahad
